Agenda

  • Approval of last month’s minutes
  • Director’s reports
  • Other business
    1. BoD Retreat in Nov: details of when and where are settled. Do we want to develop a list of topics in the Board meetings before we go to this? Any other preparations needed for the retreat?
    2. Library: It looks like we can develop an online library linked to from our web site. Need to discuss which parts will be open to the whole world, which will be available only to Lyceum, etc. It will be easier to evaluate different approaches if we have established some criteria first.
    3. Possible alignment with CoG: This is on hold until after the Retreat.
    4. Is there money for the ordination group?
    5. Make pamphlets on next Y&D ready for Pagan Pride

Business

The original minutes notes were lost when the Whole Foods wifi timed out unexpectedly. In the future we may try using the Commuications Director’s “hot spot” to link to the Internet instead.

The following was reconstructed from notes taken by the Clerical Director and from memory.

  • Minutes of the July meeting approved as written
  • Directors’s Reports:
    • Steward:
      • Officially signed up for Pagan Pride Day (9/14, 10am – 5pm, Oaks Park, Portland). We will have an information booth, Sue Ann and Will will man it. All we need to do is show up.
      • Will and Sue Ann went to the Pagan Picnic (7/20, Creston Park, Portland, hosted by Open Ways/9 Houses of Gaia). Open Ways asked for new contact information. Sue Ann gave Gyelles information and Will’s information.
      • A contact address for Lyceum on the witchvox site is out of date. Arrhiannon is the owner and only person who can edit the witchvox entry. She will make the correction.
    • Secretary:
      • Met with a young man who came to Gyelle from witchvox. He will join the next class series. He plans to attend events. His name is Shane.
    • Treasurer:
      • Bank Balance is $1,647.82
    • Clerical Director
      • Dawnell wants to initiate but not until next year, maybe not until Daniel will.
      • Donny is approved for initiation.
      • Ordination has been moved to November 1 probably around 4 pm. Records about whether all class fees and membership fees have been paid are unclear; Treasurer will contact them about it. Lyceum will be picking up the tab if we have to.
      • Treasurer will look to see how much money is available for the Ordination certificates. They have a small balance. Alesia will do the certificates and Arrhiannon will talk to her about cost. We will need to talk to Ordination group members about paying their dues.
    • Communications Director
      • The web site statistics for July are unchanged from June. This is as expected.
      • There are no problems with the web site
      • The Troll Article was downloaded five times, confirming that this resource is working and being used.
      • No written report was prepared for July; the next report will cover July and August
  • Other Business
    • November Lyceum Board Retreat:
      • There was discussion on whether to develop a list of topics beforehand.
      • Who is formally on the education committee? The question is should we open the education committee to anyone? There could be some discussion around this at the retreat.
      • We could set some goals for long and short term
      • We will look at the syllabus at the education committee and make some decisions.
    • Library:
      • There are several ways to set up the Library software: How do we want to make the library accessible? What do we want to do?
      • These decisions will be made by the librarian
      • Gyelle, as secretary, will act as the Lyceum librarian.
      • Book plates: Vista print probably has stamps available. We could also invest in some sticky labels.
      • Will and Gyelle will look into those.

Author: Will

I was born at a very young age but I am older than that now. As a young man I drove half a million miles in Boston taxis. Then I moved to Oregon and developed two careers as an RN over 28 years: the first as a clinical nurse mostly in ICU, then later in Nursing Service Administration as an Informatics RN (but before that term was coined). In between RN work, I picked up an ADSc Business Computer Programming and provided PC network installation, maintenance and repair for 10 years. I eased into retirement beginning in 2003 and was fully retired in 2010. But I have continued to develop and manage websites and my skills are current with HTTP/CSS, PHP, Apache, SQL, etc. I have a strong preference for Ubuntu Linux boxes and Dokuwiki websites. I have a strong dislike of WordPress, which, although it is technically very well done, has created one of the worst cesspool ecosystems I have ever encountered. Still it is sometimes the best tool for the job, more is the pity. I have followed pagan paths for 50 years and I have about 3 yards of bookshelves devoted to pagan thought and practice. I am a perfectly eclectic technopagan heavily influenced by Victor Anderson's Feri practice but comfortable with Gardner derivatives, Zennist ways, and totemic/shamanist practices. I have recently been made the Steward of the Lyceum Of Trees. So I am Will Steward, Steward. Make of that whatever you will.
